DB2 Ambassadors Testimonials

Hi, I m Caroline Beatriz Perlin, a 4th-year student of Computer Science in Federal University of Sao Carlos (UFSCar) in Sao Carlos, Brazil. I ve been a DB2 Ambassador since early 2007. That year, I passed the DB2 9 Fundamentals exam, (so I am an IBM Certified Database Associate!). As part of the DB2 on Campus activities, I helped organizing certification sessions and orienting students about certification. I was also part of the team who translated the "Getting started with DB2 Express-C" book from English to Brazilian Portuguese.
At the university, I ve also volunteered in the Project CCBD (Center of Training in Data Bases), a group created in order to study carefully DB2, and encourage other students to get certified and take the DB2 Fundamentals preparatory course.
Thanks to this experiences and volunteer work as a DB2 Ambassador, I was accepted to work as an intern in the Integrated Technology Delivery team in Hortolandia, Brazil. I ve been working as a DB2 DBA intern, and this June of 2008 I was officially hired as a full-time IBMer!
My hobbies include watching movies and going out with friends.

Hi, I m Lourdes Fragoso. I m studying systems engineering, and I am the president of the DB2 community in Mexico at UNITEC university, South Campus. I got my DB2 9 Fundamentals certification on July of 2007, and my DB2 9 DBA certification on May of 2008.
The community started on February 17, 2007, and the advances we ve had are thanks to the effort and dedication of all the members. The university is helping us with the rooms/labs to teach DB2, and we work as a team, and have a very good organization. We use different programming languages to work on open source projects for IBM, especially Java and XML.

Hi, I m Meisam. I am a student from Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya Campus, in Malaysia. I ve just graduated with a Bachelor of Information Technology (Information System Engineering). I m 23 years old, and from Iran. When Raul Chong visited my university on April 2007, I found DB2 s technology really interesting and decided to start a DB2 user group at MMU with help of other students and two of our lecturers. Since then, I`ve been in touched with IBM often, and have improved my DB2 skills a lot!. My group has organized several DB2 workshops and presentations.
We also invited speakers from IBM Malaysia. While pursuing my studies, I was hired by one of the biggest companies in Malaysia to work on a banking system implementation using J2EE (I like Java!). I m also leading the conversion from Oracle to DB2 in some projects at this company. The DB2 on Campus program has been very helpful to me to learn technical skills, and to network with IBMers from different parts of the world!.

Hi..My name is Sergio Matone and I m an Italian student of "Politecnico di Torino" in Italy. I m involved in this project since several months and I ve already had some speeches for my colleagues, both for Italian and non-Italian students. I had a great success with a class of International students from all over the world. People gets surprised by the possibilities given by pureXML functionalities. I ve also created a group on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8406836758 where people can retrieve information about what s new about DB2 an what s going on regarding activities in our university. Actually I m really interested in Ruby on Rails and while learning it, I m trying to find out interactions with DB2 as well.

Hi everyone, I am Felix Mahimai John, an Indian student pursuing my MSc @ Politecnico di Milano in Italy. I became interested in the DB2 Ambassador program late in 2006, and wanted to do something for the community in my college. After introducing myself to my professors and the University Relation Manager @ IBM Italy, I had the chance to talk more about the DB2 on Campus initiatives. Later with the help of my professor I made an informal afterclass event with the international students in my university, and that gave me more ideas for events. I attended seminars on the DB2 courses made @ IBM Italy which were run by Raul Chong. Moreover, since I am self learner, I can pick up new technologies very fast, so through this program I found DB2 interesting and very helpful for my career. The upcoming year I will have new members in the IBM committee @ my university with whom I will be able to run this program without any flaw. With the help of the students we will be able to conduct a preparatory course for the DB2 certification exams.
Currently I am working on the DB2 Student community portal (www.db2oncampus.org) continuing the work of another DB2 Ambassador to create the portal backend using Ruby on Rails (RoR). I m also working on the translation of the DB2 Express-C book to Italian. The IBM DB2 Ambassador program has opened a new door way for me into IBM and I hope my relation with IBM will continue in the future. I would like to thank Carla Milani, the University Relation Manager @ IBM and Raul Chong for their continuous support and interest in my career!
Thanking you all. Cheers,
Felix Mahimai John

Hello, I m Cao Xue. I m a 3rd year Software Engineering student at Xiamen University in China. I m excited to become a DB2 Ambassador. Because I had to be away from Xiamen for quite a long time, I was not able to participate much in DB2 group of Xiamen University. However, Mr Chong offered me a very good way to contribute, which is being a volunteer to translate the free DB2 Express-C book from English to Chinese, and now the Chinese version is about to publish. I enjoyed this work and it should help me in my career. I also did some brief introductions to DB2 for my friends. I hope this will benifit me both in knowledge and skills.

Hello!. I m Tammy. My Chinese name is Hanshu Shi. I m a graduate student at Jilin University in China. I m excited to be a DB2 Ambassador!. It s given me the chance to meet new friends, and develop new skills. Last month I translated some chapters from the book "Getting Started with DB2 Express-C" written by Raul F. Chong. After that, I felt more confident!. Now I want to learn more about DB2, and have set up a new DB2 user group in my university. This is the Web site I ve set up to connect with others about DB2: http://db2group.zhan.cn.yahoo.com/?tid=007. I m planning to recruit new members to my university DB2 user group, and then organize some activities; not only for helping each other to learn DB2, but also to vote for a new president of our group, because I ll be graduating this Summer. It ll be much better if the president is a student in Jilin University. Welcome Everyone!
Cheers, Tammy
